Acclaimed wherever it has been performed, Jersey Boys is one of the great musicals of the decade.
It tells the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, whose music has delighted several generations of fans. It features many of their great songs. You can't believe it's not a live concert by the real band. The sound quality is superb and the cast has the right notes, harmonies, rhythms etc. You will forget that this is a show and be immersed in the music.
Originally popular in the 60s and 70s, the music has found a new audience in the younger generation now hearing the music. Teens, parents and grandparents were all at the show and all loved it. Only children need to be excluded because the story has a couple of streams of "adult themes" - drug use, gambling, extramarital affairs, gangsters etc. Hey! this is a real story not fiction and of course it has some adult themes, so maybe leave the kids at home if they are under 15. But it is all handled tactfully and the music just keeps coming.
Jersey Boys is now on stage at Sydney's Theatre Royal, one of the city's better theatre venues.
I'm planning to go again. It's that good!
And when you have some time to browse YouTube, look for some great clips of the Australian Jersey Boys production.
